Submission Policies

Judges, academics, practicing lawyers, and current law students are welcome to submit articles and essays to the Texas A&M Journal of Property Law to be considered for publication. All submissions should be sent via Scholastica.

The Journal of Property Law will only publish work with a nexus to property law. We construe “property law” liberally; meaning, we will publish work discussing real property, intellectual property, personal liberty, energy, and more. We do not have a formal length requirement, and we will review all submissions regardless of length. However, we prefer articles between 15,000 and 30,000 words. The Journal of Property Law also encourages authors to submit essays, which are pieces between 8,000 and 15,000 words, including footnotes.

Copyright

If selected for publication, the author will retain all copyright to the scholarship, and the Journal of Property Law will receive an irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to publish the scholarship.

Write-On Policies

After each spring semester, the Texas A&M Journal of Property Law extends membership invitations according to the results of a writing competition hosted by the Journal’s Executive Board. The competition consists of a technical edit, citation edit, and written component. Only A&M students earning a minimum grade point average of 2.50 after the spring semester of their 1L year will be eligible to receive an invitation. Students earning grade point averages that place them within the top 30% of their class, as calculated by the Registrar at the close of the spring semester, shall be awarded additional points on their final Write-On Competition score. A student who demonstrates exceptional writing and editing skills in the Write-On Competition, as determined by the Executive Board which ranks the Write-On Competition Submissions, shall be invited to join the Journal of Property Law.
